The Texas Hill Country

So since my Mom came out to visit we decided we better take the opportunity to take a weekend for ourselves. We drove out to the Texas hill country to a small little town called Wimberly. It was actually the first time we have ever left our children for more than a night, and although we missed them a ton, we had such a great time being alone!

For all you non-Texans, the Texas hill country is suppose to be where you go if you want to get away to the "mountains". Based on the picture above you can tell that we weren't really suffering from lack of oxygen because of the altitude. It was, however, a pretty scenic place to stay!

We booked a couple nights in this small little cabin called the "Caribbean Dream", it was somewhat secluded, so we didn't really have any real close neighbors. It was sort of like a Bed and Breakfast but without the Breakfast. Actually, one of the highlights from the trip was going to the local grocery store the first day to buy a few breakfast items. Some of the locals there rated pretty high on the Unintentional Comedy scale, and we almost wanted to go back before we left for some more people watching.

Here is another couple pictures from the inside....

The place had it's own small swimming pool, but it was pretty cold the two nights we stayed, so we didn't try to jump in the ice cold water.

We also had our own hot tub, and with it being so cold, it was great soaking in the hot tub at night.

We talked to a few locals to get recommendations on the best places to eat, and actually ate at a few really great places that had amazing food. This place was called Linda's Fine Foods, and it was so good, they had an old hippie couple there that night playing music that were actually pretty talented, and the highlight of the night was having Linda, herself, come and talk to us after dinner. Linda's husband was also there, hanging out all night, rock'n out with the band. Anyway, with Wimberly being such a small town we were surprised at how good we ate while we were there.

We saw these random signs along the way to our cabin, I guess they use these signs with people's last name instead of street signs.

We got a recommendation to go to this Italian restaurant that was located at a winery. It was about a 20 minute drive out there, but we decided we would go check it out. Unfortunately they were having a wedding or something, cause the place was packed, and it was like a 2 hour wait. So we decided it wasn't it worth it and went back into Wimberly for dinner. We did snap a few pictures though before we left.

We were happy to finally get away for some time alone! We had so much fun we are already trying to decide what our next trip will be!
